Ever have something you tucked away in your closet and completely forgot about? That happened to this poor dress until Me Made May 2018. While looking for something to wear I popped this dress on and wondered why in the world I hid it in the back of my closet for so long. This comfy, cute, and easy to wear dress is my final look for my 3 Great DIY Dresses to Sew series. You can find Dress 1 here and dress 2 here.
This pattern is nothing new, it’s been around a long while. But after wearing it for a day I thought this McCall’s 6754 needed a full review so I could pass on what I love about it to others. I also found a fantastic sew along video. So, if you are new to sewing, this video will be super helpful.
Sewing Pattern Review:
- Pattern Description: Close-fitting and flared tops and dresses have neckline variations, elasticized (seamed) waist, and narrow hems
- Pattern Sizing: So this is a 12 and does not fit correctly anymore. I can still get away with wearing it but it is a looser fit. I made this prior to losing 20 pounds and the very little chest I did have is now gone. I will be making more in my current size soon and will make sure to post on my instagram.
- Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, except I made view D with short sleeves.
- Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. But if you have any trouble refer to the sew along for guidance. - What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the many options and the fit. I have made the peplum, three quarter sleeve dress and this short sleeve version. I feel like they are all very flattering, easy to wear and easy to sew. I don’t like that there are no pockets, but that is just because I LOVE pockets in everything. - Fabric Used:
I don’t remember this specific fabric. I believe this is a jersey knit from Joanns but I am not 100% sure. - Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I didn’t make any BUT I forgot how big the sleeve is and would like to adjust my next one. There is a ton of excess fabric that sticks out that I don’t like, although that is maybe just the fit with a raglan sleeve?? - Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes. I love this pattern! I have made it three times already, with plans for more. - Conclusion:
This dress is a winner. It is easy to sew, easy to wear, and flattering.
