Oh my cuteness! Made for Mermaids just released an unbelievable new Tea Party Collection and it is adorable. I was able to test the newly updated Lily Pattern and Sweet Treats patterns. I wrote all about the Sweet Treats here. Below I will be sharing about my experiences sewing up the Lily Pattern.
Isn’t that felt food so fun? The perfect touch to this pattern collection. You can read all about the felt food on the Sweet Treats post linked above. The collection includes several dress/top/romper options and I just loved the Lily Pattern when I first laid eyes on it. This pattern offers a beautiful back lace detail that is perfect for warm summer days or paired with a light sweater this spring.
Made for Mermaids Lily Pattern Review
PATTERN DESCRIPTION:
This is a stunning, vintage style pattern that comes in sizes 1/2 – 14. Suitable for woven fabrics. The front bodice is accentuated by a beautiful lace overlay or fabric insert, and flat waistband that wraps to the back for great coverage. Includes an option wrap-around sash. The low open back is secured with elastic and beautiful lace straps. Choose a bubble or knee length romper. Also includes very full skirt in top, dress and maxi lengths. The perfect pattern for flower girls, tea parties or special events. Detailed, precise instructions with full color photos to teach and guide you along the way are perfect for beginners. Yardage requirements, tips, tricks and more are included! You will need Adobe Reader on your computer to open the PDF files.
Includes 3 paper printing sizes- US paper, A4 paper and A0 copy shop size.
PATTERN SIZING:
1/2-14 is included in this pattern. I love that I can make a mash of sizes for my daughter’s unique measurements. I made her a 5 bodice graded to a 4 waist and an 8 length. You will want to make sure you are grading the waist down if needed since it will help the bodice lay flat and not gape on the sides.
Supplies Needed:
–Made for Mermaids Lily Pattern
-Woven Fabric: both my fabric and lace came from Hobby Lobby.
-Lace (2 or 3 inch lace by roll or sold by the yard) and 1/2 inch double fold Bias Tape:
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, this dress was made to reflect the maxi dress, lace overlay option.
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
Yes, the instructions are clear with full color photos to help with each step. You do need to carefully attach your bias tape to make sure you are fully sandwiching the pieces and catching the front and back of the tape.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I love the back detail and the maxi length skirt. I also love how many options are available if the maxi length is not your your preference. The pattern comes with no trim pages and layers so you can save yourself time and paper when printing and assembling your size.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Yes, I have a couple other dresses started that I hope to be able to complete and share soon. I do feel that you need to make sure you have accurate measurements when constructing this to make sure the bodice lays correctly. So if you are making it for someone you aren’t able to measure, it would be more challenging than something like a knit dress with more wiggle room on fit.
CONCLUSION:
A beautiful new dress/top/romper pattern as part of the new Made for Mermaids Tea Party Collection. This dress is lovely but does not have tons of back coverage, so keep that in mind if you do not like that style. There are also several other options available within the collection as well as the sweet treats pattern that I wrote a full review about.
