When I first laid eyes on the Georgia Turtleneck by Sew Sew Def Patterns I knew I wanted to eventually get around to making one. But like many sewists, my list was forever long! The good news is, when inspiration struck and I needed a pattern with ruffles ASAP, this PDF was just the answer I needed. After only taking about an hour start to finish, I am wondering what in the world did I wait so long for? Read on to see details and a pattern review for the Georgia Turtleneck.

The idea for a classic style turtleneck with a little flirty ruffle popped into my head when I received this stunning fabric from Mily Mae. It is a gorgeously soft double knit, with generous enough stretch to make a fitted top. And since I am currently making an entire animal print wardrobe (seriously, I have a problem! LOL) this fit right in to my current makes and style. The problem was, I just didn’t have the perfect pattern in my stash. And this is why I am such a huge PDF Pattern fan. I remembered the pattern, bought it, printed it in my specific size (yea for layers) and got started right away. Within an hour, this top was done. It is a quick sew and I will be making more as I absolutely love this fit!
The Georgia Turtleneck: Pattern Review
PATTERN DESCRIPTION:
Knit long sleeve turtleneck with sleeve cap ruffle (optional)
PATTERN SIZING:
XXS – 2XL , I chose the XS bust graded to a S for my waist and hips and the pattern was absolutely perfect! I am super happy with the fit.
Fabric Used:
This double knit in cheetah print from Mily Mae Fabrics was soft and stretchy enough for a fitted top while providing a little structure for the ruffle.
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, I made the ruffle option and made no changes to the pattern.
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
Super easy. This is one of those patterns that you don’t need instructions for if you are an experienced sewist who has made tops. The construction is basic and simple enough for a beginner to tackle this pattern. The only challenge in this pattern for a beginner is making the ruffle. The fabric I used made this slightly more difficult as it had more structure and the seam allowances are small (1/4 inch). I used a basting stitch to help hold it all together prior to sewing it permanently.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I love pretty much everything. The only dislike is the 1/4 inch seam allowance. I prefer at least a 1/2 inch seam for my personal sewing preference.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Yes, this pattern is simple and a great wardrobe staple. The beginner sewist could tackle this project and not have to worry about completing anything too difficult. I plan on adding more to my wardrobe in some solids as well.
CONCLUSION:
This is a great quick and easy sew and the ruffle adds a fabulous little flair for a classic top. This is a perfect pattern for a quick and satisfying make.
Until Next Time,
Happy Sewing
