I am always so excited when a new pattern releases. As a tester, I am often working for weeks behind the scenes keeping these fun new releases secret. It takes a lot to not share these fun new makes with everyone. The brand new Made for Mermaids Savannah pattern is such a quick and pretty sew that I made several last month during testing. I also made a fun hack to share as well. I hope you enjoy a closer look at the Made for Mermaids Savannah. The fabric used on all (except the floral) looks came from the always awesome Mily Mae Fabrics.

What is the new Savannah? Savannah is a romantic and dramatic top and tunic featuring a banded, square neckline. Comes in sizes 1/2 to 14 in girl’s and Grey – Navy in Women’s. Multiple sleeve options make it a perfect wardrobe piece for transitioning between seasons. Gathered sleeves can be made in short, 3/4, or long length. Choose to add elastic to any sleeve length for a beautiful puff or bishop look. You can also forego sleeve elastic for a retro/bohemian angel sleeve.
For my tester versions I chose to make all long sleeves with elastic for myself and my daughter had one long sleeve and one 3/4 sleeve without elastic. I absolutely love the long sleeve version with elastic. It is long and voluminous without hanging below my hands. The version without elastic is a little too long for my personal taste in the long sleeve. It would get in the way of all those dishes and cooking I am constantly in the midst of at home. However, several testers wear them and love them in this option.
The floral top was made with rayon spandex from Joann Fabrics that I picked up last year. The neckband in this top was a pretester version and a bit shorter than the final vesion, so you may see a bit of pulling.
I also made a super fun hack for the Made for Mermaids Blog (see the post and details here) to make a dress similiar to this inpiration one worn by Kelly Ripa. (oh how I need some shoes like she is wearing too…they are so cute!) The $1,000 price tag is a tad steep for me, but these from Amazon are so pretty! I am so tempted to add yet another leopard thing to my wardrobe…LOL The wide knit corduroy I used on this dress is so soft and lovely to wear. Mily Mae even has it in the same burgundy color as the inspiration dress, I chose the rust just because I love it and I have another burgundy Isabel already- You can see that look and review here.
Speaking of animal prints, here are the matching mommy and daughter tops I made during testing in these fun cheetah rib knits from Mily Mae.
The thing I love most about this new top is the fit of the bodice. While it is not oversized, it is also not form fitting. I suppose you call that more of a relaxed t-shirt fit. The length is long enough to tuck in the front and the curve hem on the back provides just a little bit more coverage. The top also comes in a tunic length which I did not make during testing. In addition, there is a lower neckline option on the women’s pattern. The ones you see here all feature the higher neckline.
This top was a fairly quick sew and like all Made for Mermaids Patterns, the instructions are clear and the fit is fantastic. The double V neck insertion had some testers concerned, but there are videos to help if you are a visual learner. Plus, the step by step instructions really help make it easy to put in with great results.
I hope you enjoyed this look at the new Savannah Top from Made for Mermaids. A perfect little top to trasition you through the seasons.
Until Next Time,
Happy Sewing
