DIY Loungewear to Mix and Match

I have been living in this super cozy and cute loungewear set and I must tell you all about this fabric so you can go make your own. This was my first time using Stylish Fabric and I have to say I am super impressed. While the lovely people at Stylish Fabric gifted me this fabric to try, all opinions are my own. I really love the soft feel of this French Terry fabric. While it is on the lighter side, it is perfect for joggers, tank tops, lightweight sweatshirts, T-shirts… you name it. The Polka Dots French Terry will provide you with ultimate comfort and look how adorable the spots are on this fabric. Even though they are polka dots, I love how they are not perfect circles and almost look like an animal print. It also comes in several colorways and I might just have to get a few more because who can get enough of these cute dots? Now, as much as I love the fabric, I also love that this lounge set whips up in no time and can be interchanged to make several different outfits. All three of the patterns I chose to create for this loungewear are from Made for Mermaids. Made for Mermaids is one of my favorite Indie Sewing Pattern companies. The fit, style, and ease of the patterns is amazing. I own most of their patterns for both my daughter and I and highly recommend them for the beginner to the advanced.

The first pattern I want to talk about is one of my absolute favorites and that’s the Tess T-shirt pattern. You may be thinking, well it’s just a T-shirt Shannon, what is so special about it? For me, a T-shirt is all about the fit. And the fit on the Tess is just one of my absolute favorites ever. Plus it comes with every option from high neck to scoop neck, V-neck, short sleeve, long sleeve, and everything in between. This T-shirt pattern fits me just the way I love a T-shirt to fit, fitted without being too tight and long enough to tuck in or knot up. This was my first go at the tank and I loved it so much, I made two of them. It’s perfect to layer under cardigans or hoodies for the fall and winter and also to wear around by itself in spring or summer. In addition, it’s very quick to whip up. From shoulder seams, side seams to bands and a hem…you’ll be done in a jiffy. If you’d like to read a full pattern review on the Tess, you can check out my full post here. On to the sweatshirt pattern. Here I was looking for another classic piece and the Stella fit the bill. I had only made the off shoulder, V neck back, and keyhole back in years past and it has been a very long time since I had made a new Stella. So, I decided to try out the basic front and back version with regular sleeves and I have to say it is super comfortable, easy to sew up and exactly what I was looking for. If you’re looking for a sweatshirt or top that can go from sexy to totally relaxed loungewear, this pattern is for you. I have a full pattern review for this pattern that you can find posted here.

The final pattern that I use to create my lounge set is the Made for Mermaids Lexi Loungers. This was my first time creating this pants pattern and while I love it, one silly thing happened during the sewing of these. Either my printer settings or taping of the pattern was not right. My back leg ended up being shorter than my front leg piece and I didn’t notice until I went to sew it together. In order to save it, I had to trim it even and cut my cuffs an inch longer to make up for that mistake. I also find the rise on these to be a little bit lower than this mama prefers. Since I’m often sitting down on the floor, playing and working with my kids all day, I do prefer a slightly higher rise for comfort and making sure that nothing is dipping too low in the back. They are still super comfortable, easy to put together, and come with two different pocket options as well as a flare leg and a fitted leg. Overall it’s another fantastic Made for Mermaids pattern. If you decide to pick this one up, I recommend a tool to greatly help you. A tube turner (like this ” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener nofollow”>one) for those thin drawstrings will save you tons and tons of time and frustration.

This lounge set can be mixed and matched with other pieces to really make the most of the three pieces. I really just can’t get enough of these super cute and comfortable dots so I will be wearing them every chance I can get.
