As a mom of four and a seamstress of nearly 20 years, I felt compelled to share with you a list of amazing gifts to get for the mom in your life who loves to sew. These are all things I personally own and love or would be overjoyed to recieve (hint hint…if you are my family reading this).

Subscription Services
What’s better than getting a gift on Mother’s Day? Having a recurring gift month after month to spark joy.
Magazine subscriptions that cover sewing topics and helpful techniques are perfect for the new or advanced sewist. Some more well known magazines like Threads Magazine or Sew News are great, but there are also fantastic independent magazines like Sewn that are beautifully done and you will help support a small business in the process.
Pattern Subscriptions are another great option – Burda has several options available in many languages and FibreMood is a great modern pattern magazine full of on-trend patterns and a helpful blog/social media presence to get inspiration and help when creating your patterns. You may want to pick her up some of this medical tracing paper to go along with these magazines – perfect for tracing off patterns!
Non-traditional Gift Ideas
Here’s something to celebrate – a mom that gets to enjoy a HOT cup of coffee or tea. Between disruptions or getting lost within the latest sewing project, this mug is a game-changer. It keeps your drink hot and is perfect to keep in your sewing room or anywhere in the house where you need a hot cup of happiness.
Working with fabric pulls moisture from your hands. This lotion makes a huge difference in dryness, cracks, and more. A tiny bit goes a long way, so this bottle will last a long time. Make it a cute set with some nail files (also important to keep in the sewing room to prevent snags and runs in your fabric from a chipped nail) and mom will be pampered while protecting her precious fabric.
Favorite Sewing Tools
Every single one of these items makes sewing more enjoyable. Sometimes we don’t treat ourselves to the basics, but these are all worth every single penny.
Pattern Weights – I personally own two sets from this seller- you will be supporting a small business and getting a fabulous product!
Dritz Tube Turner – Worth it…just yes, yes, yes
Knit Hem Tape – makes sewing hems on knit fabric a breeze
A nice pair of scissors – Kai and Gingher are fabulous and I love the spring action ones I own the best!
A Silk Pressing Cloth – a must-have for your pressing needs, and yes- ironing is essential in sewing
Rulers are a must-have: here are 3 favorites. The lip edge on the first one is my ultimate ruler and I use it for most cutting, but it is a bit big, so my second favorite is the smaller Fiskars one and finally the french curve is needed for making pattern adjustments- Throw in a cutting mat and rotary cutter and you will make someone very happy!
A collection of high-quality thread so that the perfect color is always near.
Luxury Sewing Items
If we don’t buy ourselves the simple tools, you better believe we would be elated to receive one of these more luxurious sewing items.
A Smart Iron – they even come in hot pink (squeal!)
An Adjustable Dress Form – prices vary greatly whether you order custom or adjustable. If you aren’t sure on exact dimensions, an adjustable one is the way to go.
A Serger – this is a basic model, still a splurge for many sewists, and I own and love this machine… but if you are looking for top of the line machines I recommend anything from Pfaff, Bernina, or Babylock.
A Coverstitch Machine – for professional hems in knit clothes, activewear, and more.
A nice chair for sewing – I prefer a comfortable swivel seat with back support to make moving from machine to machine easier.
Sewing Gift Cards and Sewing Kits
Sometimes you want to treat that special sewist with fabric but you don’t want to pick it all out. A Gift Card to an on-line fabric shop or your local Jo-Ann is a sure win. My favorite on-line shop is Mily Mae Fabrics.
Or, pick up one of these amazing sewing kits from Minerva that include everything from the pattern, to the fabric, needle, and notions needed to complete it. I wrote about these kits here.
Sewing Planners, Clothes & Jewelry
Planning out your perfect sewing projects is made easier with a planner – this cute vintage themed planner is adorable
I really need this t-shirt in my life – LOL
Michael keeps a great collection of sewing gear and he is such an amazingly talented sewist.
And I really love the Mandolorian/Star Wars theme behind these adorable clothing tags from Intensely Distracted or any of the many customizable labels to put their personal touch on their makes would be lovely.
This list could go on and on, there really is no shortage of gift ideas for moms that sew. Buying her something that shows you know her passion communicates you see her, know her, and love her. But of course, the gift of kisses, hugs, and handmade notes are priceless as well.
