Raise your hand high if you love taping together a bazillion PDF sewing pattern pieces? Anyone? If you are like me, you love PDF sewing patterns but don’t love the prep work that goes in to using them. Two things can make using these sewing patterns easier. When a pattern has those two things and still offers lots of options, you have a winner. I would like to show you why I think the newly released YOUTH BOUNDLESS DRESS is a great pattern to add to your collection.
So, let’s look at the two things that I think really help make a PDF pattern more user friendly. The first one is using a layers feature which allows you to only print the size you need. The Patterns for Pirates patterns have this feature and it is so important. I actually get a little angry when I open an older pattern or use one without this feature. I love only printing the size I need without having to trace out a billion lines from my black and white printer which makes this task so difficult. I also love that I can print the two different sizes I need at once when I need to grade between sizes and still only use minimal paper.
The other thing that brings me great joy is seeing a pattern that only has a couple pieces. This means less paper and less tape. The Boundless Dress only has the sleeve, bodice and pocket to print, the rest are just written measurements for cutting your skirt. However, just because the pattern doesn’t have many pieces, doesn’t mean it isn’t full of options. Check out the tester album HERE to see how many different versions have already been created.
The Boundless Dress offers a tank bodice and sleeves (short, 3/4, and long). Included lengths are above knee, below knee and maxi. Bodice options include empire, which sits just below chest and natural waist which hits at natural waist above belly button. Also includes inseam pockets.
Sizes: 3m,6m,9m,12m,18m,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,12,14
I was lucky enough to be selected to test the Youth Boundless Dress in the lined, short sleeve, maxi dress version and it is love. I paired a moss green Rayon Spandex from Hobby Lobby with a cream stretch lace from Joann Fabrics to create a stylish dress that can be easily dressed up or down. This dress is a quick sew with a lined bodice…so no pesky neckbands if you struggle with those darn things.
And did I mention this dress has pockets? Pockets are must have in my book and I was so happy to see them included in this pattern. My daughter loves this dress. It is long enough to create that beautiful maxi dress style but still easy to move around in. I have several more versions that I would like to create and I can see this pattern being used over and over for years to come.
I think this pattern is a great one. It comes together quickly, there are only a few pattern pieces to tape together, it offers lots of options, and covers a broad range of sizes. You can be creating different looks for years to come and this versatility is key in making the most from your sewing.
Until next time, Happy Sewing-
