Aside from nearly freezing while taking these photos, I loved everything about this make…LOL As you can see from my background I tested this pattern several months ago. It is a perfect skirt for spring and summer but bare legs and below freezing temps were a bit much. Try to ignore my shivering face and let’s focus on the beautiful pattern details.
I chose to make View A, the paper-bag waist detail. This fun effect allows the pleating to continue above and below the waistband visually. I think it is a stylish detail. The skirt above is made in a heavy denim I picked up at Goodwill for a steal. While I love this in denim, I would choose a lighter weight option if I made it again. This heavier denim was a tad difficult to make work with all the pleats, invisible zipper,, etc. So keep in mind fabric choice when considering options. My second skirt was also thrifted fabric…a table cloth no less. Much lighter in weight, it was far easier to sew.
Both skirts are paired with the Tai Bodysuit and Top pattern, more details on that pattern found here.
AK Patterns Adriana Skirt Pattern Review
PATTERN DESCRIPTION:
The Adriana skirt is a flattering, high-waisted skirt with beautiful pleat details on one side. Her gorgeous silhouette will flatter every shape, cinching you in at the waist before skimming out over the hips. Version 1 features a beautiful, pleated panel that extends over your natural waist and adds a touch of elegance to the garment. Version 2 includes a simple waistband for a more casual look. Both versions close with an invisible zip in the back and sit below the knee.
This incredibly versatile pattern will take you through every season. Depending on the fabric you choose, it can look completely different. Make the Adriana in a crisp cotton lawn and it will be the perfect skirt to wear all summer long or choose a lightweight wool to stay warm and stylish during the colder months of the year.
PATTERN SIZING:
Patterns come in sizes UK 4-28 (US 0-24, EU 32-56)

FABRIC SUGGESTIONS
Depending on the time of year, your sewing level and the look you are going for, you can make the Adriana skirt out of a variety of fabrics. We recommend light to medium weight stable woven fabrics such as cotton poplin, cotton lawn, jacquard, lightweight wool, suiting, or something with more drape such as a medium weight crepe.
Invisible Zipper– I have a large multipack from Amazon that have worked well.
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, I made the paper bag waist detail and I love how it turned out. I feel like the heavier weight denim I used was a bit too thick and made for more difficult sewing, but I love how they both turned out.
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
From the pattern: “The Adriana skirt is a project aimed for advanced beginners and it will teach you lots of useful techniques, such as constructing the pleats, attaching a waistband or inserting an invisible zip. It will be the perfect pattern to tackle if you want to up your sewing game or a quick sew for the more experienced seamstress.” I found the instructions very thorough and easy to follow. It is a more challenging sew with the added details but manageable for an advanced beginner and up.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I love the waist detail and the two different options. I wish the pattern came with layered options so that I could print out only the size I need.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Yes, I made two of them and I love them. I think I may try a lighter weight one for summer and I also think this would be lovely paired with tights and corduroy or wool in winter.
CONCLUSION:
If you are looking for a stylish skirt with some more challenging sewing skills required I highly recommend this pattern.
Until next time,
