I have to admit I have always been a fan of the wide leg jean. I think maybe I missed my style era because the 70s always seem to speak to me. As much as I love a good Boho Inspired Maxi ,every time I see a pair of flare leg or bell bottom jeans I feel I MUST own the pattern. I have several in my stash already (does that ever stop a seamstress??), but as soon as I saw a few pairs of Chelsea Pants by Greenstyle Creations, I added it to my ever growing pattern pile. Somehow they moved to the top of the to-sew list. And, I am so happy they did. I love these pants and I am here to give you a little pattern review of how they turned out. I wish I had more full length shots but this day was a losing battle to Colorado wind gusts 🙁
Chelsea Pants Pattern Review
Pattern Description & Suggested Fabrics:
Easy pull on pants made with sturdy knit or even super stretch denim! You can even check out our button hack for the waistband included as a separate download. The lines and silhouette of these pants are very flattering and the center front seam elongates your legs while the back dip in the waistband enhances your curves. You will love them.
Pattern Sizing: XXS-3XL
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, the pattern was very clear and easy to follow. I did mess up and sew the legs together incorrectly the first time, but that was my own fault for rushing through the instructions.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Ok, where to start. I mean, look at those flare legs. Next, I think they make your butt look amazing (if I do say so myself). They are PULL ON pants, so no zippers, buttons, nothing…quick and easy! They come in a variety of waist band heights. The pants can be made in a variety of fabrics for different looks. I really have nothing I dislike.
Fabric Used: A super stretchy and soft denim from Joann Fabrics.
Pattern Alterations: I added a couple inches of length because I wanted to wear wedges and I wanted the pants to touch the ground.
Would you sew it again? Yes, I have already purchased fabric for two more pairs.
Would you recommend it to others? Definitely. This is a quick and easy pattern for pants. I do think your fabric choice matters. On my second pair I used a super cheap ponte from Walmart and the fabric gave me horrible wrinkling problems throughout the legs. I didn’t notice it with the first pair, but if I have any issues with additional ones I will update my review.
This is the high waisted option and it is REALLY high…I will be making the mid rise on my future pairs for my preference.
On a complete side note- my top is an attempt at making the awesome Boho Babydoll Top in a woven…don’t do it! I knew it wasn’t drafted for a woven and even with my adjustments it did not work. So, take my advice and save yourself the trouble. It doesn’t work. Keep it in a knit and you will be happy.
Until next time, Happy Sewing
