I was so excited to try out the DIBY Club Nora Pattern. I recently found out about this pattern company in the Mily Mae Facebook Fabric group. When I saw the cute outfits people were modeling in the group, I raced over and purchased the Adrienne Pattern. Imagine my delight when the DIBY Club contacted me and asked me to pick a pattern to review as well. I immediately jumped at the chance to try out the Nora Pattern. And while the pattern was provided to me, the feedback and review are completely my own opinions and my honest reflection after sewing up my first DIBY Club pattern.

Let’s begin with all the things I loved about the Nora specifically. I was drawn to the style of the top, especially the funnel neck (hello cozy comfort!) I also loved the longer tunic length. There is just something about a top that covers my rear that speaks my love language – LOL. I can wear this style of top with jeans or leggings and feel covered and comfortable yet stylish. I also loved the sleeve length options. It really came in handy when I sadly didn’t have enough fabric for full length sleeves. If you want to see all of the great versions to help you see if the style is right for you, there is also a fabulous gallery of tester tops found here.
What did I not love? Well, not much. It is a bigger PDF pattern to print because there are so many options and if you want all of them, it will require lots of printing and taping. (I do my taping on my large glass patio door- makes matching the lines super easy). But I am a PDF pattern lover and that doesn’t scare me off. It is a very thorough pattern- and while this isn’t a bad thing (I actually will sing it’s praises in a bit) it also requires lots of pages if you chose to print instead of read on a screen.
The thing that I immediately noticed about the DIBY Club patterns was the amount of detail included in the instructions. The pattern is far beyond any amount of information I have come across in most PDF instructions. From how to choose a size, grade your pattern, to fabric selection the pattern will walk you through in very detailed steps. This is great information, especially for someone new to sewing clothes. There is nothing worse than feeling like you have no idea what a pattern is saying and no where to turn. I don’t think you would ever feel that way while using a DIBY Club pattern. The amount of attention to detail in the instructions is top-notch and if you do happen to get stuck, the facebook group is available to help. Overall, there was not a single part that was confusing and while I didn’t need a lot of the pattern adjustments like an FBA or height adjustments, I read through the instructions to review and was impressed on how helpful the directions were for these changes.
I found the Nora Pattern to come together quickly and easily, even when adding the funnel neck option. (Which there will be more of in my future…absolutely love that). While my stripe matching game could be worked upon, I was limited on fabric and so I had to make what I had work. The sleeves in 3/4 length is normally a love for me but in this top with the funnel neck I really wanted long sleeves…I was so sad I didn’t have enough fabric. This was not the pattern’s fault, it was just I was using this cozy french terry from my stash that I pick up at Joanns this summer and I didn’t quite have enough to make the longer sleeves. The weight of the french terry in this top is absolutely perfect. I could layer this easily under or vest or coat and it keeps me nice and warm around my house- I am that crazy lady always wearing hoodies and fleece jackets no matter the outside temp.
I really enjoyed making this Nora Top and my first experience with DIBY Club patterns. I already made up my second Nora to share with you soon and I see many more DIBY Patterns in my future. DIBY CLUB NORA PATTERN REVIEW
PATTERN DESCRIPTION:
The Nora women’s PDF sewing pattern was designed to be a comfortable and trendy wardrobe pattern. This sweater can take you from a a day out on the town to cuddled up by the fire at night.
Necklines: Crew // Scoop // Drawstring Funnel Collar
Sleeve Lengths: Elbow // Three Quarter // Long
Hem Options: Banded // Side Split
Additional Options: Elbow Patches
PATTERN SIZING:
sizes 00-36 34 inch-48 3/4 inch full hip measurement
I chose Sizes 2 bust to 4 hip. I normally have to grade out for my waist and would have had to with this pattern’s size chart as well. However, the additional instructions provided on grading this pattern for your body were so helpful. The directions let me know that waist grading was not needed in this pattern. There are tons of details for grading, height adjustments, FBA, etc to help you achieve the perfect fit.
Supplies Needed:
Knit fabric with at least 50% two way stretch- I chose French Terry that I picked up at Joann Fabrics. You will also need drawstring if adding the funnel neck option.
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, I chose the Funnel neck, split hem, 3/4 sleeve option. I did not hack or change this pattern in any way.
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
Very easy. One of the biggest features of this pattern and the company is the detail in the instructions. There are multiple links to walk you through information, guide you in making choices for fit and construction as well as provide easy to follow instructions for sewing up the garment.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I loved the funnel neck, the split tunic length, the sleeve options, the overall style of the pattern, the detailed instructions, the ease of sewing the top, the fit, and the general finished product. I do not love how lengthy the pattern itself is if you want to print the instructions, but it is the trade off for so much thorough detail.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Absolutely, I have already made a second one in the crew neck option, I plan on adding several of these to my wardrobe as I live in casual wear and I love the longer length of the top for leggings.
CONCLUSION:
The DIBY Club Nora Sweater is such a cute pattern. I loved how quickly this easy to wear top comes together. I think it is a piece that will get a ton of wear in my closet and I am very pleased with how it came together and how it fits. I am excited to try more patterns from this company because many of the pieces are very much my style.
