When you luck out and score 8 yards of chambray fabric for 8 bucks, you begin to think of all the fun spring and summer pieces you can make. My estate sale find turned into this DIY Chambray Maxi Dress with tons more left over for other projects.

I recently made this Made for Mermaids Women’s Lily dress after getting the chance to create the girl’s pattern for my daughter. Her dresses were so cute, I couldn’t wait to make one for myself. You can read more about the girl’s pattern here.
For my version I used the Women’s Maxi Dress Length, full bodice with halter back. Of course I added the pockets because…why not?
Paired here with this cute packable hat and my favorite earrings from Amazon!
I love the halter tie back option. I sized down on the elastic for my back to help prevent any slipping.
The dress in a woven is slightly more snug around the top of the bodice where my hand is in this photo, however in a knit (which the pattern allows for knit or woven) it would be perfect. I also feel like the walking ease in the maxi length skirt is a bit tight. I could walk okay in it, but when I stepped down off stairs, into a car, etc it was pretty restrictive. Just a few more inches of flare at the bottom would have really helped it feel more comfortable.
Like maxi dresses? You may enjoy these looks.
Until next time,
