Hello there and welcome to 2019! What better way to start a new year than with a new to me sewing pattern? I picked up the somewhat newly released Jolene Pattern from Seamingly Smitten in December and quickly cut out three DIY Turtleneck Dresses to give my closet a fun little style boost. The best part was all three of these looks are super quick and easy makes. Today I am going to show you the first Turtleneck Dress I made using this pattern.

-Pattern from Seamingly Smitten
-Knit fabric- I used this ribbed knit from Joann Fabric
-Soft and Stretchy Hem Tape for the hems
-Sewing machine or serger
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, my skirt is a little less flared because I slightly reduced the a-line to personal taste. I used the full neck turtleneck piece and the length is per the pattern. I am 5’5″. I also used flexible hem tape for finishing the sleeve and dress hems. After pressing with the hem tape, I hand-stitched the hems to reduce bulk and not have a visible stitching line.
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
Yes, super easy. This is a very beginner friendly pattern with no complicated steps.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I love how quickly the pattern comes together. I love that it is both a top and a dress. I do not like that the pattern is not layered. Therefore you have to print out all sizes instead of just your own.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Yes, I have made this three times and will be highlighting each one I made and the changes I made to the pattern to create three looks. It is a great dress and an easy sew.
CONCLUSION:
This is a fantastic beginner pattern but is also a rewarding quick sew for the experienced seamstress. I would recommend it to people just getting started with knits as there are very few steps and pattern pieces. It comes together quickly and the original drafted pattern is a but looser so the fitting is a little more forgiving.
I hope you enjoyed a look at this first dress I created using the Seamingly Smitten Jolene Turtleneck Dress and Top Pattern. Please stop back by the blog next week to see another look I created using this same pattern. Until next time, Happy Sewing.
