It is so wonderful to be included on the Style Makers Fabric Fall Style Tour 2020. I was given the opportunity to look through the beautiful fabric choices coming in and let me tell you, there are cart loads of gorgeous options. After many hours trying to decide which fabrics to pick (yes, literally hours- they were all so good!) I decided to pick fabric that would be a closet staple, simple and classic and oh so perfect for fall. After sewing up these traditional pieces I am happy to say, I made the perfect choice for myself and my wardrobe. I know I will reach for these pieces over and over this fall and winter. Please enjoy this look at my Fall Style featuring some of Style Makers newest fabrics.

The Fabric: Style Maker Fabric Fall/Winter 2020
I picked two fabrics to bring my casual and cozy fall look together. The plush sweater knit in a fabulous shade of Paprika is so vibrant and rich. This rusty red is perfect for fall and reminds me of some of prettiest leaves I see right outside my kitchen window as I type this post. How perfect that it would also look lovely with these amazing fabrics all bundled into the Fall Foliage collection. While I have always loved red, orange and anything in that color family, this sweater knit also comes in three other selections (honey, olive and black) if you are looking for different options. It is wonderfully soft and warm without being super thick and heavy. I am able to layer it with my long sleeve t-shirt, perfect for bringing along with me everywhere I go as I am always chilly and looking for additional cozy layers. The fabric was a dream to sew up and I look forward to wearing this all season. For a look at all the gorgeous sweater knits in one place, take the time to drool over this collection here.
My basic white t-shirt is another staple that was given an upgrade by this incredibly soft fabric. The Modal Jersey Knit, available in several colors, is perfect for all your t-shirts this season. I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, and while I love sewing fabulous dresses, you will often find me lounging in this type of outfit every chance I get. When I received this fabric, I was instantly thrilled with the soft feel and weight of the fabric. It is heavy enough to not be see thru, which is important for a white t-shirt, but soft and light enough to be perfect for a top. The knit is high quality and I think it will wash and wear very well this season.
The Patterns: Simple Fall Staples
When deciding on my makes for the Fall Style Tour, I really wanted something that reflected my everyday look. Typically I throw on jeans and t-shirts and cardigans are a must in the cooler temps. After looking through my patterns I decided on two patterns that I thought would work really well with these fabrics. The first, while it seems like a very basic white t-shirt, is in fact my current favorite casual t-shirt pattern. I blogged recently about the Tess Pattern made as a tank, and I have a full review here when I used the v-neck option. For the white t-shirt pictured, I chose the low scoop neck and curved hem. I have to admit, that I feel like the high scoop neck is a bit more me, but now I know. Moving forward, I will continue to make this staple in the v-neck and high scoop options because everything else about the fit/pattern I love. If you want to make a t-shirt, be sure to check out this great beginner friendly pattern and for professional finishes without a coverstitch, pick yourself up a twin needle for a cheap and easy solution to professional looking hems- pair it with this hem tape and you have yourself a winning combination.
The cardigan is one of my favorite styles. This draped, open front cardigan is quick to sew and perfect to bring along for chilly restaurants, movies, and more all year long. I used the Straight Stitch Designs Laurelhurst pattern. The pattern is an older one, but still allows for choosing layers for easy PDF printing, which is very helpful when printing your own patterns. While it is super simple to sew, there is a tutorial for additional help that you can find here. I love that this pattern allows for raw hems and I think it works beautifully in this sweater knit. If you chose to make this pattern in a different fabric, make sure it is one you are comfortable letting people see both sides. As the cardigan drapes in the front, the wrong side of the fabric will be able to be seen. Also, this pattern does not have finished edges, and I decided to add some serged seams to help give it a more polished look on the insides. I shared this make with my Instagram followers and showcased the inside. Please make sure to follow along on my Instagram for additional tutorials/videos and more during pattern construction.

Your outfit looks great. Would you describe the Paprika as more red? I have a sample of the black and love how it feels. I overlooked Paprika on the site because it looks orange. But if it’s red, my favorite color, I need it in my wardrobe. Thanks so much.

THank you – I would not describe it as orange, but I also wouldn’t say its red. It really is a rusty red, one with an orange tone to it if that makes any sense – LOL- really is quite like the color of paprika.
