Have you ever sewn a Fibre Mood Pattern? I am brand new to the Fibre Mood brand, just discovering this company last month with so many fabulous creations on Instagram. Imagine how delighted I was when I got to try out one of their designs for their newly released June Magazine. I present to you my take on the super cute Colette Dress Pattern. I hope you will check out my review below to see why I think this pattern is definetly worth a sew. I can’t wait to get my next one finished!

The latest Fibre Mood issue has so many great patterns for both women and children and also includes macrame earrings that are so darling I think I need to learn a new craft! I decided to try out the Colette Dress and it is so fabulous. The faux placket is perfection….no tricky buttonholes and absolutely no worries of gaping. I am working on a quick tutorial that will show you how to add the buttons by machine that will make this part of the process a million times faster and easier (click the link to see the easy tutorial). Well, maybe not a million…but it is so much better than sewing by hand. And since the front is a faux placket you may be wondering how you put this on and off. The secret is the hidden zipper in the side seam and the elastic along the back that give the bodice the ability to slide it on and off. Here is a picture of that side zip. (And a peek at quarantine blonde hair…aghhh…I should have bought this root hiding stuff before pics. Anyone else use it? I read some reviews but looking for some blondes to tell me their thoughts).
I made this dress in a maxi length because I personally prefer a longer length. In order to do so, I just added about 17 inches to the skirt length (which is floor length for me with tall wedges on). Simply measure where you want your dress to hit and add the length to the pattern pieces. It’s a very easy and simple change.
This foldable hat is perfect for summer and hiding those quarantine roots I mentioned before. It is a cute affordable Amazon option:
And if you love fun buttons, make sure you check out Tabitha Sewer’s store- these fun little buttons are called Tortoise Classic And check out this tutorial for sewing buttons by machine to make this job much simplier!
Fibre Mood Colette Dress Pattern Review
PATTERN DESCRIPTION:
The Colette looks like a button front dress but is actually a faux placket. The invisible zip is hidden in the side seam. The dress features large patch pockets, sewn into the side seams and a somewhat higher waist – providing plenty of room to breathe and move freely and stay cool in summer heat. There are also adjustable straps and elasticated back.
PATTERN SIZING:
Sizes 0-26 available- I made my size per the chart and found the bodice slightly too large. I took in through the seams and it fits great now. The waist and hip measurements were right on for me. I will be sizing down on my next one for the bodice only.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Woven fabric- linen is perfect for this dress and I used this lovely green linen that I found yards and yards of for a few bucks at the thrift store. Such an awesome find.
Interfacing – I prefer SF101
Invisible Zipper- I bought a bundle box from Zipper Stop and this one was mixed in there.
Buttons- I bought these fabulous tortoise shell buttons from Tabitha Sewer’s online shop
Thread- my favorite for my machine and for my serger are linked
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, except I lengthened to a maxi dress. I added 17 inches to the dress pieces. I followed the rest of the dress instructions exactly. The length on this is floor length with tall wedges on so I would like to shorten it a bit to wear with summer sandals.
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
Yes they are easy to follow. This was my first time sewing a Fibre Mood pattern. There were a couple parts that I felt would be more difficult for a beginner to understand. Some background knowledge for sewing patterns. dresses, etc would be helpful before tackling this dress. I sew my zippers using a different technique and I also hand stitched the section above my zipper closed by hand so that there were no gaps. The adjustable straps are great, but following a video or online tutorial with more pictures will be very helpful if this is new to you. I also prefer sewing my buttons on with my machine.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I loved the adjustable straps, the faux placket, invisible zipper, the patch pockets being sewn into the side seam and the front slit. There isn’t anything I dislike.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Yes, this is a fantastic summer dress pattern. I want to make many more as this is the perfect comfy and cool look for summer heat. I would recommend this pattern for advanced beginners and above.
CONCLUSION:
I really loved sewing my first Fiber Mood pattern. This dress is so comfortable and I love all the little details this pattern includes. I am looking forward to checking out the other patterns in this month’s issue.
Until next time,
Happy Sewing

Hi Diane, So glad you love this pattern. I believe you are able to also purchase individual patterns as PDFs through the website. If you click the link in the first paragraph it should take you to the page where you can purchase individual patterns or the entire magazine. I recently purchased a single pattern and it was delivered to my inbox immediately. I hope that helps- Shannon
