What Do I Need to Make This?
- Fleece Material – I prefer the anti-pill or luxe fleece sold at Joann Fabrics. It goes on mega-sale a few times a year. Stock up because you will need several yards. (If you are in the UK or looking for a ton of options that will ship to the US- check out Minerva for an amazing selection. )
- Lining/contrast material for the Hood and Cuffs- soft n stretchy fabric with great recovery is highly suggested for your sleeve cuff. Something like this. If you are able to, repurposing old shirts as I did here is a great sustainable way to line the hood and make cuffs that coordinate.
- Free Pattern found here (Psst…did you know I have over 100 free patterns linked for your sewing enjoyment here, check it out!)
- Basic Sewing Supplies – Needle, Thread, Scissors, Sewing Machine – I linked some budget friendly, beginner options in this list if you are just getting started and need some help picking out your supplies.
Why Do You Like This Pattern?
While making this pattern does not guarantee your children will start pampering you, it does guarantee maximum comfort and cozy warmth. It comes in both children and adult sizes, allowing you to pick a size that works for everyone. I chose to make the longer length for all of us. This is long enough to cover you fully when sitting on the couch and lounging around enjoying a cup of coffee on a chilly morning.
And don’t think this will be put away in the summer! I’m looking forward to wearing it in the basement when the air-conditioning is quite cold!
Need a Gift Idea?
– This would be so cute sewn up in toweling fabric (or a large beach towel) for a summer pool cover up. Fill a sand bucket with it and some fun outdoor trinkets and you have a great gift.
-Sew it up in cozy fleece, pair it with a popcorn bucket, snacks, cozy slippers, and maybe a bottle of wine for a cozy at home movie night gift idea.
Add Some Decorative Stitching for a Pop of Fun
I used my new Pfaff Ambition sewing machine to sew up the decorative stitching around my children’s hoods. You can see the hearts my daughter picked out and the circles on my son’s hood.
The pattern is pretty quick to put together and includes an optional large kangaroo pocket. Of course, who doesn’t love to have pockets on everything they own? I made sure to include them on all of my children’s blankets as well as mine.
I hope you enjoyed this look at a free pattern that you can download now on the DIBY site here. Please make sure to check out my full free pattern list. It includes over 100 free patterns linked for you.
Until next time,
