Last week was the release of my latest summer sewing obsession. The Made for Mermaids Jade Pattern is so amazing that I made several versions with no plans for stopping. And the best part is, it is so quick to sew that you can add a ton to your collection quickly. The testers in this group made so many different ones too because it is THAT good. So, be prepared for plenty of inspiration from the Made for Mermaids sewing community if you are trying to decide if this pattern is right for you. Below I took a moment to give my review for the Made for Mermaids Jade Pattern in both women’s and girl’s sizing.

Made for Mermaids Jade Pattern Review
PATTERN DESCRIPTION:
The Jade is a knit pattern with tons of options. Choose from a scoop or tie front, faux shoulder ties, 1/2 circle skirt in peplum, mini, or knee length (full circle skirt in girl’s pattern), or 4 inseam options with the romper choices plus pockets!
PATTERN SIZING:
Sizes Grey-Red which coordinates with the Made for Mermaids size charts. I cut a Pink chest graded to the blue waist to a purple hip. I always have to grade out for my waist in Made for Mermaids patterns, so make sure you are checking the size chart carefully. My daughter requires pattern grading. I made her the 6 width with an 8 length and it fits perfectly.
Supplies Needed:
Medium Weight Knit fabric with at least 40% stretch horizontally and some vertical stretch. Some choices are Double Brushed Poly, Cotton Lycra, Liverpool. I used Liverpool for my floral options and a scuba for the Pink. All fabric was recent seasonal clearance at Hobby Lobby. My favorite fabric to work with for this pattern was the Liverpool and it feels amazing on. I did make on early test version (not pictured) in Rayon Spandex and found it too drapey to work well in this pattern even with stabilizing the seams.
Optional -Elastic- clear, 1/4 or 3/8 inch and Hem Tape (makes a huge difference in the way your knit hems look, much more professional)- I prefer this option:
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, the hot pink makes show the women’s peplum, scoop front with faux shoulder ties and my daughter is the scoop front, faux shoulder ties in an unhemmed dress length. The light blue floral is the faux shoulder ties, scoop front peplum in girl’s and the dark blue floral is my maxi dress hack version (details on the Made for Mermaids blog) but reflects the tie front top per the Women’s pattern.
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
Yes, the pattern is easy to read and understand. Make sure you carefully follow seam allowance as they change in the pattern during strap construction. This is highlighted in the pattern to make sure you do not miss it. There is also extra information on adding elastic to stabilize.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I love the design details in this pattern. The adorable faux ties first caught my eye, but now that I have made the tie front bodice I really love that option. To help with the bra situation, you can use removable cups if you are smaller chested like me. I linked the ones I used below. You can also wear a regular bra with the scoop front bodice if you make sure the strap placement in the back lines up with your bra. I love the different lengths of the skirt, the twirly factor on the girl’s circle skirt pattern, and the option to make pants/romper with pockets. There is nothing that I dislike.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Oh my goodness, a million times yes. This pattern is a quick sew, the bodice is lined and comes together very easily. The options for the pattern are great and can fill a closet. I plan on trying the pants version and adding a few more dresses to my daughter’s closet. And although the maxi hack is a fabric hog, I think I want more!!
CONCLUSION:
The Made for Mermaids Jade Pattern is an adorable new release that gives me tons of options for summer wear. It is comfortable to wear, quick to sew and super cute. I can’t wait to make a few more! This is also a great little gift pattern. My daughter loves spinning and spinning in her skirt as would many of her friends!
Until Next Time,
Happy Sewing
