I recently had the opportunity to sew the newly released Made for Mermaids Jordan Pattern for the boys in my life. I was on a tight deadline and probably should have never threw the question out to my kids “Who wants to match daddy for some pictures?” Because all four hands went flying up. After a little uh-oh moment and thinking there was no way I can get that done in time, I settled on matching short sleeve t-shirts for the boys and their dad. My daughter sat this round out, but don’t worry, she has plenty of clothing and appearances on the blog. So enjoy this rare look at my boys and hubby as they too often get left out of this page. I am so glad I was able to sew and feature them…even if this is some of the pictures I find on my camera.

I mean, what a bunch of goof balls. This picture makes me smile for so many reasons so I am happy to present it as the first picture on this post. LOL…Now, onto the rest of the pictures and the details about this pattern.

Again…they make me melt. Ok, onto pattern details 🙂
Made for Mermaids Jordan Pattern for Kids
PATTERN DESCRIPTION:
It comes is sizes 1/2 to 14. Jordan is a great staple unisex tee pattern with loads of options! You can choose from a straight top length, split hem top length with a slight high low hem, or a dress length! The top lengths are cut straight down from the chest, while the dress length curves in at the waist slightly for a flattering silhouette. With multiple sleeve options including sleeveless, short sleeves, 3/4 sleeves, long sleeves, and long thumbhole sleeves (not cuffed!), this pattern will work beautifully in every season. Choose from either a crew neckband or a 3-piece hood with optional lining and/or drawstring. Add the optional kangaroo pocket for endless combinations.
PATTERN SIZING:
Sizes 1/2-14. I graded multiple sizes for the t-shirts my kids are wearing. They tend to need tall/slim sizing so I had to grade between two sizes for each top. In hindsight, it would have been easier to print and tape each individual kid’s pattern instead of trying to trace off from multiple sized pattern pieces. Simply because I don’t have a color printer and all those lines were tricky. So, my advice is to print the layers you need for each as separate patterns, if you are making multiple tops/dresses.

Supplies Needed:
-Knit fabric with good stretch and recovery. I was on a tight deadline and needed to shop locally. This left me two options Joann and Hobby Lobby. I found the colors I was looking for at Hobby Lobby, much to my surprise. I purchased this rayon spandex in light blue and grey. At 50% off it was a great deal. While it worked okay for this shirt, it is a bit on the thin side and a tad annoying to work with. Make sure you are starching the neckband to help prevent rolling and be careful not to stretch the fabric while sewing to prevent pulling. I will be making more shirts in either a bamboo lycra or cotton spandex for a bit thicker option. I made my husband a long sleeve cotton spandex version and the fabric was much easier to work with.
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes- these are the short sleeve style top. No modifications other than grading for height.
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
They are very easy to follow. Simple and straightforward, you can feel confident putting this together if it is your first time working with a knit pattern or if you are an experienced t-shirt maker.

WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I love that the pattern is no-trim pages and has layers to print only the size you need. It comes together quickly and provides you with many easy options to get the most versatility out of a basic shirt pattern.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Yes, I have made two for my husband and plan for more tops for my whole family. This is a great basic pattern that can be made in a variety of ways and I look forward to more tops made in my children’s custom sizes.
CONCLUSION:
A simple pattern with easy to follow instructions provides a great wardrobe staple. Many options to create tops, dresses, and hoodies with several different looks are found within one pattern.
