I am thankful my daughter still loves to match with me. However, she is getting to the age she likes to have a bit more say in what she wears. While ideally I would love to have our outfits look more alike, I will take whatever form of coordinating I can get. When I asked her if she wanted to have something to match my hot pink top her face lit up. She LOVES anything pink! But sadly, I couldn’t convince this dress loving little girl to have a matching top. Insert McCall’s 7617 into the mix. She flipped through my patterns and settled on this pattern, view C. Read on to see my full McCalls 7617 Dress Pattern Review. The full review of the coordinating top I am wearing can be found HERE.
McCall’s 7617 Dress Review
PATTERN DESCRIPTION:
Loose fitting dresses have back zipper, sleeve and shaped hemline variations; wrong side of fabric will show. Contrast collar, cuff.
PATTERN SIZING:
3-8, I cut the size 5, 6 length for my daughter. The sleeves were still too short with the added length so I had to add cuffs to make up for it.
Supplies Needed:
-Cotton/Cotton Blend Fabric- I used a mystery fabric from the thrift store. It is spongey like a scuba knit but with very little stretch. This fabric is a bit thick for this pattern so the skirt has more body than it would have in a thinner cotton fabric.

DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, I made view C.
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
I didn’t follow the instructions but read through them before I began. I did not see any confusing steps or difficult instructions. I prefer my own methods for sleeve and zipper insertion and therefore didn’t complete those according to the instructions. I also added cuffs at the sleeve after construction because even with the added length, my daughter’s arms were too long for the sleeve.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
The high low hem line, the simple construction, the options included. I don’t care for the peter pan collar or cuffs but I did not buy the pattern for that view.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Yes, this pattern is a basic dress with no difficult or fussy instructions. It can be made in a variety of options which I think provides you with many choices from one basic pattern.
CONCLUSION:
This is a great basic dress pattern. My daughter enjoys wearing hers and I would like to add a couple more to her closet. I think I may try one in knit and omit the zipper and see how that goes.
