When you can’t bear to take off your latest sew for two days, you know you have made a winner. The latest release from Patterns for Pirates gives you two great options for fantastic loungewear patterns.
Here is a closer look at the Cozy Set Wrap and Pants loungewear patterns.
Loungewear Patterns: Patterns for Pirates Cozy Wrap Top
PATTERN DESCRIPTION:
The wrap top can be used as part of the loungewear pattern set or styled with jeans/pants for an everyday top. The top features a dolman sleeve, wrap front bodice with waist tie. Comes in top, tunic, knee or midi length. The side hem is split featuring a high-low hemline. Sleeve options include short or long sleeve in fitted or gathered option with a cuff.
PATTERN SIZING:
Women’s Size XXS-Plus5 X – I made the size XS bust grading out to a size S waist and hip. I found the fit right on for my measurements.
Youth Size- 3M-14 (My daughter requires lots of grading. 7 Width, 6 waist, 10 height) There are tips on grading that you can watch. It becomes a bit more challenging with the dolman sleeve but can be done.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
-Fabric: Light to medium weight knits such as rib knit, modal, double brushed poly, sweater knit and French Terry Blends.
This wrap top is a bit of a fabric hog. I ended up using most of my 3 yard cuts of this cheetah sweater knit from Hobby Lobby I purchased last year and my daughter’s Christmas Knit – also found at Hobby Lobby.
-Basic Sewing Supplies: Scissors, sewing machine (Serger can be used for most of this sew, but a sewing machine is required for the waist tie openings and split hem notched area), thread, iron, and pins. My favorites are linked below:

DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, these wrap tops are made per the pattern with no changes other than grading for measurements.
Adult = tunic length with gathered long sleeves and cuffs
Youth = knee length with slim sleeves/cuffs
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
Overall the instructions are easy to follow. You need to pay close attention to the waist tie and notch areas. The directions can be a little confusing as they are guiding you to not use a serger in this section. All you need to know is that you leave the area between the waist tie notches left unsewn while sewing the side seam. You also leave the area from the side notch to the bottom of the top unsewn to create the side vents. Other than this part of the pattern, it is fairly simple to construct.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I love that it is able to be worn as loungewear as well as a top for every day. The wrap-around front and belt are fantastic. The gathered sleeves are on-trend and the top is very comfortable to wear day and night.
While I wouldn’t say it is a dislike, it does require a decent amount of fabric. Be careful to make sure you have plenty of the fabric left to cut the bands. They need to be with the stretch, as well as the belt.
Also, make sure you are using your sewing machine to baste or stitch your bands to the bottom hems if you want them to be accurate. Feeding them into the serger will often cause them to shift and they won’t line up perfectly to the side vents. Use the serger only after basting or stitching with your machine.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Yes, I have now made 4 of these tops during testing. My daughter loves the knee length and has asked for many more. I personally love the gathered sleeve tunic length one and plan on more for myself. The top takes a little more time to make with all the bands, waist tie and side vents, but still comes together relatively easily. If I find a good deal on fabric and can make matching sets, I would love to add more to my collection. For both my daughter and I to have full lounging sets (tops and bottoms) I need about 6 yards!
If you are brand new to sewing, I wouldn’t recommend this as a sewing project. Give yourself time to become familiar with knits and sewing/topstitching vents, waist ties, bands before tackling this top. Sewists with some experience with knit garments would feel more comfortable sewing this top. The pants I review below are a great beginner sew if you are looking for an easy option.
CONCLUSION:
Cute and comfortable all day loungewear pattern looks that can quickly be paired with jeans or pants are a wardrobe must for me. I love how I can use the Cozy Wrap for its versatility and my daughter loves how cozy the top keeps her all day. She hasn’t taken it off much this past week! I would say, that’s a sign of a great pattern.
Loungewear Patterns: Patterns for Pirates Cozy Pants Review
Youth HIgh Rise with pocket Adult High Rise with Pocket
Pattern Description:
A super comfortable high rise or low rise pant. Wide legs that pool slightly come in side split option as well as 30-34″ inseam options. The pattern includes an option for shorts. Waistband options feature plain or drawstring.
PATTERN SIZING:
Women’s Size XXS-Plus5 X – I made the size S and 30″ inseam. I found the fit right on for my measurements.
Youth Size- 3M-14 (My daughter requires lots of grading. 7 Width, 6 waist, 10 height) There are tips on grading that you can watch. The pants fit her very well and actually stay up on her tiny waist while remaining long enough…a very impossible task with ready to wear.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Knit Fabric with at least 40% stretch – I used sweater knit for my pair (would not recommend the waistband out of sweater knit unless adding a drawstring).
Basic supplies: sewing machine, thread, pins/clips, scissors and optional drawstring. I purchased this drawstring set from Amazon and it is quite handy to have on hand. The bodkins and threaders it came with have been a lifesaver. (As an Amazon Affiliate, I may make a commission from qualifying sales).
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, I made no changes to the pants. Both youth and adult are sewn as high rise with plain waistbands and pockets.

WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
Yes, the instructions are very simple. If you are wanting the easiest option sew the plain waistband, no pocket, no side split seam option. Want some more detail? Add pockets, casing and a drawstring to your pants.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
They are cozy lounge pants, what is not to love? I prefer the high waist option but I would advise using a fabric with good recovery on the waistband. My sweater knit is too stretchy and I will be replacing my waistband. Use a very stretchy stitch when sewing as well so you don’t pop stitches. The high rise waistband is tight over the hips when putting on.

WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Absolutely, a million times, yes! These are perfectly comfy with just the right amount of ease in the leg and length. I love wearing them everyday in the house and need many more. My daughter is currently living in her pairs as well, so I need to get sewing 🙂
These are great for beginners and do not have any difficult steps. If you are new to sewing, try the plain waistband option for easiest assembly.
CONCLUSION:
A perfect pair of lounge pants available in youth and adult. Sew up a bunch and enjoy a perfect fit for your body measurements.
Thank you so much for reading this up close look at the newest Pattern for Pirates Cozy Set. I will be working on sewing up a few more of these loungewear patterns for my girl and I so that we can live in them all the time!
