I am so excited to post about my second make using Simplicity Pattern 8982. This pattern is a real winner. It is quick to sew, stylish, and easy to wear in your everyday wardrobe. I previously blogged about my slightly modified Simplicity 8982 using sequin sleeves here. Today’s post is about another simple easy hack to turn Simplicity Pattern 8982 into a turtleneck sweater for all your Fall/Winter wardrobe needs.

Simplicity Pattern 8982 Review
PATTERN DESCRIPTION:
Easy to Sew Misses’ Dress or two-piece top and skirt. Designed and sized for stretch knits only. Dress is below-knee length with long sleeves. Top has straight or cuffed sleeve options. Pull-on skirt is elasticated at waist. Two length option
PATTERN SIZING:
6-14 and 14-22 – I made the 8 bodice graded to the 10 hip. This is one size smaller than my measurements place me but I am happy with the fit.
Fabric Needed:
Stretch Knits: I used this gorgeous Zebra Hacci from Mily Mae Fabrics and it is perfect for this top.
DID IT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTO/DRAWING ON THE PATTERN ENVELOPE ONCE YOU WERE DONE SEWING?
Yes, I made view C with additional height on the neck piece. The neck line originally folds over to create a 2 inch mock neck, I added 3 more inches to each side, creating a piece 10 inches long. When folded over there is 5 inches for the turtleneck minus the 5/8 inch seam allowance. I find I made the turtleneck about 1 inch too long. If I were to do it again I would make it 8 inches long instead of 10. I used the sleeves as is, as opposed to my sequin top. I would prefer to have 1 more inch in length in the sleeve to make it perfect and an extra inch in length on the bodice.
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS EASY TO FOLLOW?
Very. This pattern comes together quickly and easily. I skimmed the directions and checked seam allowance, steps, etc. However, I did not follow them while putting this top together as it was basic shirt construction steps.
WHAT DID YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE OR DISLIKE ABOUT THE PATTERN?
I love the extra long cuff, the puff sleeve, and the ease of the pattern. However, I did not love the mock turtleneck and chose to make it more of a traditional turtleneck and I wish the body and the sleeves were just a bit longer but that is a very simple fix and personal adjustment preference.
WOULD YOU SEW IT AGAIN? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS?
Yes, I have already made two and I absolutely think this pattern is a great one. I love it and think many others would as well whether you are a beginning sewist or advanced.
CONCLUSION:
A simple sew for a stylish top. The pattern comes together easily and provides a cute and easy to wear top.
